With so many pages and people getting hacked recently I felt it is my duty to help you make your accounts and pages virtually unhackable. However, remember this is not fool proof so be vigilant. These ideas will help but it will not be 100%, at the most it will probably put off the regular hacker because it's going to be too tedious to hack you :)
1. SET YOUR SECURITY SETTING TO THE MAX FOR YOUR PERSONAL ACCOUNT
-Choose the trickiest, messiest, craziest password ever for your personal account. ABC123 is obviously not a strong password, and so is Lovemydog.... Choose passwords with no meaning or relevance like Hgstys5st6! (Goodluck with remembering that haha)
- Set up a security code - you will get an SMS or an Email is something suspicious is up. It works I swear. They notify you if someone not in your usual location tries to sign in. They also notify you for sign in on unknown devices.
- Unless you are a public figure do make absolutely everything private. If you are a public figure do not post private information on your public profile.
- Choose settings where only friends of friends can add you. Messages are okay to be publicly accessible because you can filter it through the message request function. If you don't like the person or the
message you can choose to ignore.
- Don't ever add someone you don't know. That cute guy can possibly be an old hag who's last bath was 8 weeks ago.
- DON'T BELIEVE all the emails you get from Facebook, especially those that ask you to write your password or click on a link. DON'T CLICK ON ANY LINK FROM YOUR EMAIL. If you think there may really be something wrong get out of your email, go to your Facebook account and check your settings. NEVER CLICK A LINK THAT SAYS CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT PASSWORD. Hackers go through extreme measures to write up emails that are legit sounding and totally believable.
2. YOUR PAGES
- Don't ever post the email you use for your facebook account on your page and make sure its set to private (seen by only you) on your personal account. This is a huge huge mistake... posting it publicly is practically asking to get hacked.
- Regularly check your admin page - You might be surprised that someone you don't know is already added as an admin on your page.
- Don't add admins that you don't know, better yet DON'T ADD ADMINS, add moderators instead. Trust is essential, remember that these people have full access to the page and they have information on your personal account. If you absolutely must have co-admins please make sure they follow the tips on item 1 which ensures they have the highest security settings on their personal facebook accounts.
- Be careful of links. No suspicious links should be allowed to be posted in the group. If you see one. DO NOT CLICK, IMMEDIATELY DELETE IT. If you can't see the thumbnail of the link that is very suspicious.
- NEVER TYPE YOUR PASSWORD IN A POP UP WINDOW OR A NEW TAB. While typing a comment or posting anything and a window pops up asking you to type in your password to verify your account DON'T DO IT!!!! Immediately close the window and get the heck out of there! Check your personal facebook account and change your password if you feel unsafe.
